Emma the Tank A-Go-Go

I've not been slaking off here, despite the toddler shrug still sitting in my studio, pouting away. I've been working on constructing a sweater for the Tank.

Photobucket

For this, you pulled me away from my sunny spot on the living room floor?

Photobucket

A treat after we're done? I can't believe you're making me work under these conditions.

I feel so weak...

Photobucket

Woohoo!

I'm having to make up the sweater as I go. Nothing works for what's basically a dachshund that's been super-sized. So far, so good. The tricky bit will be doing the leg openings for the girl.

The weekend and my girl...

I'm off to finish my Reading Wrap this weekend. I've decided not to add the final two skeins of beige tweed as it will be much too long if I do. It will still be quite lovely to look at and wrap up in!

Meanwhile, my girl and I are going to get some quality time in together this weekend:

A bit of a diversion...

No knitting here (kind of), move along...

Some of you may not know, but I love letters. Writing them, sending them, receiving them, reading them (mine and other people's letter collections). So when I popped over to Madame Purl's site to see what she's been up to, this caught my attention:

Letter Writers Alliance

How did I miss this all those times I've visited her site?!

And of course, I'm now a member - anxiously awaiting my packet of stationery and member card!

Back To Knitting

Remember this yarn?

Photobucket

Yes, I was supposed to turn it into a wee cardigan for a certain Miss Mallory.

And this scarf made of luscious cashmere and mink?

Photobucket

It's been hibernating away, too.

Somewhere between work, Emma, sleeping, working out, and volunteer activities, I've got to find the time to do some knitting.

We will not even discuss the lack of spinning.

Emma Settling In

No real knitting news as I've not touched the needles in about ten days. Too much going on between leaving my temp job, getting a new permanent job, taking care of Emma, helping out with a local event.

I took the girl to the vet on Friday, who confirmed that based on the location where she was found, the problems that have been taken care of or are being taken care of, she was dumped. Emma was picked up in a rural and farming area of our city where in recent weeks 14 "stray" dogs have been found. The HSSC confirmed this for me, although they wouldn't give me the numbers, but I found that out from another source.

However, she's healing up very well. She's got her rabies vaccination, heartworm preventative meds going, and flea & tick protection. Emma's cost some serious money from my savings already with the vet care so far. And it looks like many months' worth of car payments to fix the bad shape her mouth is in. The vet said Emma's about 2 years old, but her mouth looks like a dog of 6 or 7 years. We hope we'll catch and correct the problems in time to save most of her teeth.

Meanwhile, she's eating much better, loves her Nylabone, and she's being a bed hog:

This is what I wake up to:

Some other shots to kill you with the Emma cute:

I found her favorite game is a doggy version of "chicken." You sort of run to her like you're going to catch her and she runs as fast as she towards you, at the last minute she veers off and goes careening around the sofa... She does another lap, reverses direction to play "chicken" with you again, only in the opposite direction.

Man, I really love my little money pit:

And doesn't she know it.

Love Is In The Air

First, sock heel that's been turned!

And now, Emma:

She loves car rides, and prefers the front seat to the back - but she was okay with napping on the backseat:

She feels the need to nap:

And is most definitely a sleep on the bed kind of girl:

I woke this morning to my alarm, rolled over & Emma's snorkling away, still dreaming dog dreams. I carefully stroke her back legs and call her name, she sort of lifts her head, all muzzled looking, and then remembers who I am. Then? It's like I'm the greatest thing she's ever found! A lick on my chin, many thumps of that killer tail of hers, and head butts against my belly. Me=stupid with dog love.

I've Met Someone

It's been a long time since I've felt this excited about a new relationship.

Her name is Emma:

Photobucket

She's a basset hound that was picked up as a stray. I found her through the Humane Society of Scott County.

Photobucket

For being a stray, she's in very good condition. Emma has a very sweet temperament, and responds well to people and other animals. I think she's close to, if not older than, 2 years old. I don't know basset hounds well, so I'm unsure.

Photobucket

She's scheduled to be spayed on Monday, then I can pick her up on Wednesday and the adoption will be finalized. And five days after that, it's Emma's first check up with the vet clinic that took such good care of Solomon. They can also tell me how old they think she is...

Photobucket

Okay, here's the downside. I hope y'all are sitting down.

I spent my yarn money getting supplies for Emma's homecoming.

I know, it must be love!
